Is there a company that pays you to extract/index old papers or books?

I know someone in colleague who used to get paid to write down the names on death and marriage certificates. A person would show up at the door ad give them a cd, they got paid something like five cents per name. Its sort of like familysearch.org but they pay you. Do you know if there is anything like this online?
