Is it safe to hook up a "shelf stereo system" to my desktop computer ?

I have a 520 w "shelf stereo" system ( a main tower w/ 2 speaker towers) it has a aux mp3 jack in the front and I was wondering if I could connect a headphone aux cable from it to my computer? I did not know if it would blow the sound card of if it would be fine?
