How do I copy Vista without CD?

I have a desktop computer that I bought from a previous owner. It already had Windows Vista on it but I don't have the CD. Nor does the previous owner. I would like to back up a copy of it on a cd in case I need it later if I have any computer problems. Is there a way of doing it? Also, would the product key be anywhere in the files?
