Can a high end gaming desktop PC be called a gaming workstation PC?

with powerful multiprocessors on the rise for gaming machines .can a gaming pc be compared to or called a workstation pc...can a gtx graphic card outperform entry level workstation QUADRO cards or is there a difference in what applications they can run for ex:3d application such as AUTO DESK and CAD...are there any gtx or ati gaming cards that is comparable in performance to an entry level or mid range quadro video card..
