Microphone crackling?

I just got a new headset for my PC, however when using skype and team speak there is a crackling sound whenever i talk, how do i fix this or what is causing this ? This is not a problem with the headset as i have tried it on my net book and it is extremely clear, my desktop is running on windows seven and my net book has windows xp on it. if you need more info just ask. thanks
