Files on outside of desktop..?

I opened a rar of some photos I had taken and accidentally extracted them to the desktop. There were about 150 of them and only some of them appeared on the desktop screen. So, are they like on the outside of the desktop and I can't reach them? Or did the desktop only extract enough to fit on the visible screen? Please help!!!
